CompassData in the News September 2015
CompassData Has Purchased the Assets of Spatial Information Solutions (SIS)
We are pleased to announce that CompassData has purchased the assets of Spatial Information Solutions (SIS) of Starkville, Miss. As a result of this acquisition, we will sell, support and develop the SIS patented Map Accuracy Tools product line, which includes the popular Accuracy Analyst 3.0 and Topo Analyst 1.0 applications.
We will be demonstrating both software applications next week in booth #2063 at GEOINT in Tampa, Florida, April 14-17..
We see great synergy between our Ground Control Point offerings and the Accuracy Analyst and Topo Analyst tools because these applications require high-quality, independent GCPs for their accuracy verification processes. The Map Accuracy Tools are content enhancement solutions that automate map accuracy verification and eliminate manual processing, ensuring consistent quality control of geospatial products. Accuracy Analyst is a simple, fast and complete workflow solution that verifies the accuracy and quality of orthorectified photos and images. Topo Analyst automatically tests and verifies the accuracy of elevation data products, including LiDAR point clouds, Digital Elevation Models (DEMs), IFSAR products and other raster elevation data sets.
CompassData is offering data for 3 free ground control points from our archive to any new customer or existing customer when they renew maintenance for the software. For more information, contact us at or 303-627-4058.
FAA Notifies CompassData of DO-200A Certification
After a long and rigorous process, the FAA has notified CompassData that we have received DO-200A certification for Standards of Processing Aeronautical Data. This means that CompassData has been approved to provide ground control points and to verify the accuracy of orthoimagery for use in the creation of digital aviation navigation products that will be utilized in the cockpits of aircraft. The first to receive DO-200A certification for ground control, CompassData joins a small and elite group of companies approved to provide map data for aircraft navigation and situational awareness products. CompassData has built an archive of GCPs for over 450 airports and imagery for 150 airports that are available certified to DO200A. The archive is being built across the globe and the location of the data can be viewed at https://www.compassdatainc.com/archive.htm.
CompassData Buys Trimble UX5 UAS
We are proud to announce the purchase of our first Unmanned Aerial System (UAS), a Trimble UX5. Three members from the CompassData team just returned from Calgary, Alberta, where they learned to operate and fly the UAS at Trimble’s official flight school.
At CompassData, we view UAS technology as the future for collecting authoritative mapping information for small-area projects where mobilizing an aircraft or tasking a satellite just is not practical. CompassData has unique experience using GCPs to integrate imagery data from sensors on the ground to space based platforms. We will offer UAS mapping as an end-to-end service and perform all processing in-house with our skilled staff using high-quality ground control.
Our plan is to offer commercial UAS mapping services internationally until the FAA approves operations in the United States by 2015. In the meantime, we will be teaming with universities and government agencies within the U.S. to gain valuable experience in leveraging this new technology. In terms of commercial offerings, we will initially focus on solid waste disposal, mining, oil & gas and agriculture applications.
We selected the UX5 because of our long history as a Trimble Business Partner and also because the new craft has received excellent reviews. The UX5, which comes with a custom camera system, was engineered specifically for mapping and surveying professionals who require highly accuracy deliverables. In addition, it has a robust airframe and is easy to operate. Contact us at or 303-999-3011.
CompassData Featured in Earth Imaging Journal
Check out the GEOINT issue of Earth Imaging Journal to read how CompassData worked with the U.S. Department of Agriculture on a project creating a 3D image scene of Centennial Airport near our office in Colorado. The project demonstrates how highly accurate ground control can be used to fuse multiple geospatial data sets to generate a realistic 3D environment to improve situational awareness for pilots.
